For this conference she will provide practical programming ideas for short term residents along with documentation forms and management systems that work. Next she will review sensory enrichment programs that will enhance the quality of life of your residents offering a fresh philosophy, seasonal themes, teachable techniques along with inexpensive equipment. She will finish the day with an uplifting session on inspirational and practical ways to improve your recreation department.

Michele Nolta, a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, who earned her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in 1983 and founded her business, Recreation Therapy Consultants in 1986. In 2006 Michele expanded her consultation services to include coaching, education, and consultation in person-directed care, the national movement called culture change.
She has provided education for hundreds of care communities and has specialized in keeping current with Quality of Life documentation and regulations. Michele has written many books for the long term care profession and has traveled to make presentations for healthcare professionals in 30 states.
Description: More and more of our Residents stay in our care centers for only short durations of time. This session will equip long term care professionals to better serve the needs, preferences and expectations of these residents. We’ll include new forms for expedient documentation, program ideas, and management systems that work.

Description: This uplifting session is based on concepts from Fred Lee’s book If Disney Ran Your Hospital, 9 ½ Things You Would Do Differently. You will go away with 9 ½ ways to improve your recreation department! Inspirational and practical ideas will be presented and playful teaching modalities will be used.
Objectives: By completion of this session the learner will be able to- Describe 10 ways improve your recreation department Identify one specific new action for daily departmental improvement Explain how the “Disney” approach can benefit residents, patients or clients
