CATRD'S FALL SEMINAR ~ THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2011

The Connecticut Association of Therapeutic Recreation Directors in Association with the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners is offering the 8 Hour Certified Dementia Practitioner Training

 

This eight hour seminar is designed to open the path for qualified participants to gain a new or additional certification as a “Certified Dementia Practitioner” through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners. Designed in ten modules, this dementia curriculum includes:

  • Overview of dementia, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment
  • Communication, feelings, depression
  • Repetitive behaviors, paranoia hallucinations, wandering, hoarding, aggressive behaviors
  • Catastrophic reactions
  • Intimacy, sexuality
  • Personal care, bathing, dressing, toileting
  • Nutrition, pain
  • Activities, environment, staff and family support
  • Diversity, cultural competence,
  • Spiritual care and end of life issues.

 

Presenter ~ Michele Nolta CTRS, ACC, CDP adds interactive teaching, years of practical experience and culture change perspectives to this training.

Michele is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. She earned her bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University in 1983 and founded her business, Recreation Therapy Consultants in 1986. She is certified by NCCAP as a qualified Alzheimer’s and Dementia Trainer.

In 2006 Michele expanded her consultation services to include coaching, education, and consultation in person-directed care.

She has provided education for thousands of care professionals in hundreds of care communities and has written many books for the long term care profession. Michele is proud to have made presentations for healthcare professionals in over 30 states.

 

Who Should Attend?

Anyone who works with persons with dementia in any setting, health care or home care: health care professionals: CNAs, home health aides, activity professionals, social workers, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, administrators, memory or dementia unit managers and supervisors for memory care or dementia care living or community centers. This is the required class for those who are pursuing certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and is also attended by those who want to increase their knowledge base.
